Fear, amazement, excitement?
Thoughts saying ‘What an idiot, why did he do that, I would never do that’ or maybe ‘wish I could do that, that looks such a buzz’
Ueli Steck would have climbed many mountains before and most likely at a slower pace, but here was a mountain which begged him to climb at speed.
Most mountains aren't climbed at a sprint, but rather at a careful slow pace.
I have never climbed any high mountains. The highest mountain I have ‘knocked off’ was Pikes Peak in Colorado. It was so arduous and tough climbing the mountain in a rental car with some friends. The view was spectacular, but the breathing was difficult due to the lack of oxygen. It was so good to have a cafe at the top.
We all have mountains to climb.
It may be a mountain of an addiction, an illness, a career, a truckload of past traumatic memories, a demand to be in control of life. You will have a mountain that you either face up to, run from or pretend isn't there.
I have had mountains that God has called me to climb. The pain and the struggle was there. The views on the trip up were both exciting and scary. I am not sure I have reached the peak yet, still other mountains to climb to get there.
The spectators at the base of the mountain are exactly that, at the base of the mountain. Looking through binoculars from a safe distance and not getting the excitement and thrill of the climb.
The mountain is your challenge and yours alone. A few years ago I decided to climb a mountain called Mt Bachelor of Applied Theology. I decided to climb it over a long period of time and after ten years I finally reached the summit. I have a piece of paper on the wall now with my name on it. Others helped of course but I personally had to do it.
The mountain challenges that face you are your challenges. Don’t try and make them into being other peoples responsibility. You have to climb the mountain, its yours and yours alone. The addict can keep on blaming others and being the P.L.O.M (Poor little old me) but they will never reach the top of the mountain.
A couple of quotes from the the video.
Your progressing and that’s what it is all about
You need to keep moving, having a progress in your lifeIf you want to read about some great mountain climbers in the Bible then read about Abraham, Esther, Gideon, or Ruth.
They all had mountains to face and all trusted in God to make it to the top.
What mountains face you?
